Does anyone ever get this question from players? Strikes me that the way to resolve it is using a Circles test with the ‘now’ modifier. Any thoughts?
I get it all the time. Sometimes, if they’re fishing for an advantage, I’ll call for a Circles test. But if the NPC in question has a reputation or a place in our setting, I’ll usually tell the players that right away. Giving out basic information about characters helps enrich the setting.

Say Yes, or roll the dice.
I would answer: “I don’t know. Do you know him?”
Or you could answer: “Yes, you do. Now tell me, what do you know about him?”
