In one BW game we had a similar thing when my original PC was laid out with a MW from a bow. Decided to just permanently NPC him and made a PC out of one of the rival relationships (brother). I think I ended up killing the original PC eventually. Or letting someone else do it.
Point being it was a permanent switch. Having two PC’s to advocate for feels like weak sauce.
The character he’s currently controling was originally an NPC bodyguard of the other PC. He still very strongly considers the swordsman his main PC, and cannot wait to get back to him.
We’re having a great time with our story, so I don’t think it’s weak sauce.
Having fun is what matters. And “weak sauce” was a bit harsh on my part.
No worries. 
So why don’t he wait, and prepare a Belief for his “1st character” to get the sword from his bodyguard? … Hell, that’s a BELIEF he could forfill lying in bed.
