But if it were made of ebony, dragon bone, or some other fantasy material it could most assuredly be better at bashing in heads. If it were made to be longer instead of long it could out reach the other weapon gaining the advantage in fight. Decreasing the Add improves the chance of mark damage. Increasing the speed allows you to strike more ofren. Notice that all of these weapon modifications are permitted under the enchanting rules in the magic burner.
I agree with Wayfarer. An ordinary staff is Poor Quality; a Staff specifically made to be used as a weapon is Run-of-the-Mill. A hastily “trimmed tree branch” is a found weapon, probably a using the broom handle stats on page 555. Also, I now that I look, I can’t find a cite for this in the book, but I’ve always played with the rule that found weapons are inherently Poor Quality, and as such have a base Ob 2 to hit (instead of the Ob 1 that non-PQ weapons get).
