I ran a game once where a Dwarf Adventurer quested to regain his honor after breaking an oath and being thrown out of the clan’s hold. Part of that included regaining an ancient artifact lost by the clan, eons ago. It just happened to be this artifact was lost deep within ancient mines now inhabited by…you guessed it, GIANT SPIDERS.

I have to say those games were some of the most enjoyable I’ve run. And let me tell you, a one-on-one FIGHT! between a dwarf adventurer and a giant spider. It was epic!

I too used spiders as a villain. Sure, they were interdimensional spider-demons, an idea I shamelessly stole from Judd, and no one actually saw one, but their machinations through their cult, the Circle of Eight, were certainly felt.
