Back while playing D&D 3.5, I played a dwarf fighter named Terrik Brotheraxe. He had forged his own axe at creation and refused to give it up during his career, even for magical weapons. (He carried a spare axe with a silver blade for fighting monsters immune to mundane weapons.) I always imagined Terrik retiring and starting his own order of dwarven “monks”, (for lack of a better word), who are dedicated to the mastery of their forged weapon above all else.
