Inviting suggestions to understand pockets and spell components

Putting together some ideas how to use pockets in conjunction with spell materials, I saw only the brimstone of Wyrd Lights is actually rated at pocket sized. Yet, there are other spell materials without notation that maybe could be pocketed.

I’d like to get suggestions for rulings that are fiddly, inconsistent, strange, and inconvenient regarding spell materials. I do want players to use spell materials, but I don’t want something terribly logical. Magic isn’t logical, but spellcasting follows patterns.

Part of the initial idea came up regarding starting spell materials at character creation. I certainly don’t mind a magician overfilling the inventory with spell materials at the detriment of pragmatic adventuring tools.

Any suggestions?
