The Petty Noble lifepath requires a patent of nobility.
One of the first level benefits of being a petty noble is a patent of nobility (and Precedence 6).
Is the intention that this only benefits the Noblesses de robes, who would have Precedence 5 otherwise, or is there something I’m missing with it?
Hi I would say you got it right! I also thought it could be a benefit to mechanically turn a commoner into a noble should they become heroes of the kingdom.
It seems a bit unfair for lvl1 noblesse d’epée, but the again this is M&m hehe. Perhaps a workaround would be to consider this a Deed and concede +1 Rep if this represents an overlap.

Patents of nobility are generally required and provided by noble families to prove that they are indeed noble.
Patents can be granted and purchased, not just by noblesse de robe, but by officers, merchants, financiers and tax farmers.
