Shrugging it off

Hi, just a quick question about rules of Shrugging it off on p.497
There are two mechanics, Clearing the Cobwebs and Gritting your Teeth. But i have problems finding how often can player use this. Base on “Let it ride” rule i suppose only once per injury?

And also second part of question, can that be used on injuries that are

  • Bleeding
  • Not treated
  • Not recovering
  • Recovering

Thanks all

I think the fact that there is no stipulation means you gotta answer that question yourself.

Shrugging It Off applies to a scene if successful, I ride failure for that long as well, and I hold off on having the player test unless they’re about to make another roll.

The bleeding, recovering, etc. status of the wound seems to have no bearing on whether you can shrug off its pain.

On top of this, due to the fact that invoking these rules requires actions to be spent during a Fight provides clear incentive for a player to endure their current wound penalties rather than risking giving their opponent one too many openings.

I would say it’s fine to do it repeatedly in an extended conflict like a Fight or Range and Cover, like with any other action. If you want to remove someone else’s helmet, you can try it multiple times, so I would say that trying to catch a breath is possible to repeat too. You are wasting actions doing that, so there is always a trade-off for doing it.

Outside of conflicts, it follows the standard LiR rules.
