Your opponent gets the advantage, and you lose your next action. You’re off balance, you’ve committed a lot of momentum to staggering your opponent, but you miss or are rebuffed. It takes you a moment to catch your balance, and your opponent gets to keep you at the optimal distance for their weapon.
It is the second sentence under the Restrictions header.
